Nobelity Response 1 and 2
1. The movie really put a broad prospective into focus through accessible and plausible means. I was highly impressed with the way that the video was put together, incorporating both clips with no dialogue, interviews, and even old video clips such as the juggling scene. It wasn't just a simple, straightforward question and answer sort of documentary. Interviews were conducted both indoors and outdoors, showing both the cultured interiors of people's homes and the hectic turmoil of the completely natural surroundings outside. This somehow made the video seem more real and more personal to me as the audience, as I felt that I could connect with the ordinary, everyday people who were captured on film. This also increased my perception of many global issues that I previously did not give much thought to.
2. One particular interview that stuck in my mind was the one of ABP. Desmond Tutu, who spoke about the power of love and forgiveness coupled with human capacity to accomplish great things. He made the point that everyone lives on the same Earth and that people can only spend so much money on "budgets of death." He emphasized that human weaknesses should not limit us from trying to accomplish world peace and that prejudices are parts of humans that God does not posses. He asserted, "God has no enemies," and that "My enemies are not God's enemies," trying to show us that there is no use to terrorism or hatred due to differences in religion, personality, or any other human characteristic. I think this is a great message to show the audience, as it impresses on the importance of being able to forgive and learn from past mistakes. It is as though he is trying to say that no one is born perfect, but together people can make up for others' faults.

Good points about the way the movie is made--I think it keeps things interesting without getting too Hollywood or preachy, as movies sometimes do. I love seeing all of the different places and people that he visits in the film.
I agree about Tutu, also. He makes so many good points in such a small amount of time, and his ideas about us all being a family are so true to me. I especially like what he says about how things should go "from each according to their ability to each according to their need." Our abilities, as Americans, are so great and there is so much need. I hope you will be able to make choices in your life to help the members of you "family!"
